This seventh chapter leaves a rather bitter taste in the mouths of franchise fans. The production ditches dense political maneuvering to rely on shortcuts and magical writing fixes. The final stretch of the war runs a serious risk of losing steam right before the finish line.

Instead of fleshing out the protagonists’ dilemmas, the directors prefer focusing on shock value that quickly fades. Watching a previously tight storyline stumble right when it should shine is highly frustrating. Audiences demand consistency, and the battle for the Iron Throne deserved much better narrative care.

House of the Dragon 3×07 Suffers from Consequence-Free Decisions

The writers developed a dangerous habit of pulling massive events out of thin air. The direct clash between Rhaena and the wild dragon Sheepstealer perfectly illustrates this creative laziness. The series drops actual political conflicts to focus on a generic family feud with scales.

This showdown looks visually cool but carries zero dramatic weight for the overall story. The brawl serves as just another cheap excuse for Daemon Targaryen to hide valuable information. The leading couple’s dynamic fell into a tiresome loop of repeated fights and mistrust.

Viewers miss the chance to see the harsh consequences of leadership across the continent. The script prefers beating the same marital dead horse instead of moving the succession chess pieces.

Rhaenyra Targaryen’s Decline and the Harrenhal Weirdness

Rhaenyra Targaryen’s arc suffers a visible and regrettable downgrade in this round. The show removes the monarch from public administration, which previously yielded the best dialogue of the year. The focus shifts to weird interactions with Helaena and sexual manipulation orchestrated by Mysaria.

Far from the capital, Alicent’s presence in Harrenhal generates very mixed feelings. The former queen faces the perversions and family obsession of her own one-eyed son. This intimate tension works in isolation but traps the war’s main antagonist in the exact same setting.

Fans get the strong sense that Aemond is just marinating aimlessly in the cursed castle. The side plot feels disconnected from the military reality consuming the rest of the Seven Kingdoms.

Sunfyre’s Cheap Trick and Ormund’s Strategy

Down in Tumbleton, Ormund Hightower carries the Greens’ military strategy on his back. The lord uses Corlys Velaryon as a hostage to block the Blacks’ naval support. He also manipulates the bastard Ulf, showing great skill behind the tactical scenes of the conflict.

Despite this clear intelligence, the character seems to play a completely isolated game from the rest of the cast. Meanwhile, the former king’s core group pulls off the most forced twist of the entire run. Larys bizarrely abandons Aegon after discovering allied soldiers are looking for Tyland.

To make the dramatic situation worse, Sunfyre miraculously rises from nowhere to kill enemy troops. The dragon returns without any warning just to save the dying monarch’s life. The scene plays out like a super cheap trick designed to shock the audience with zero justification.

This seventh chapter wastes a massive chunk of the potential built up over recent weeks. HBO runs a serious risk of delivering a narrative ending just as disappointing as the second year. The team needs to course-correct immediately, or the Dance of the Dragons will end with a complete whimper.
